ProgJect, Bill Bruford In Conversation

Artist Information

ProgJect–the brainchild of drummer Jonathan Mover–features an all-star band of prog-loving top players with histories that include Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Jon Anderson, Asia, Alice Cooper, Steve Vai, GTR, Spock’s Beard, Hardline, The Tubes, Marillion and more… Joining ProgJect for 2024 is vocal virtuoso, Alessandro Del Vecchio, and world-renown bassist, Stu Hamm. With a four-plus octave range, ADV has lent his talents to various members from Deep Purple, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, and Kansas, to name only a few, and now allows ProgJect to expand its already-extensive prog repertoire to include vocal hits from Rush, Kansas, Peter Gabriel and more. With Stu Hamm onboard, the legendary “Satriani Rhythm Section” of Hamm/Mover reunites for the first time in twenty-plus years, and sets the stage for even more rhythmic wizardry and shenanigans than ever before. ProgJect’s two-plus hour show includes: “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”, “Firth Of Fifth”, “The Cinema Show”, “Larks Tongues In Aspic, Pts I & II”, “21st Century Schizoid Man”, “Roundabout”, “Siberian Khatru”, “Karn Evil 9: First Impression”, Have A Cigar”, “Money“, “In The Dead Of Night”, “Alaska”, “Closer To The Heart”, “Red Barchetta”, “Solsbury Hill”, “D.I.Y.”, “Aqualung”, “Locomotive Breath”, “Cogs In Cogs”, “Hell’s Bells” and more…

Bill Bruford is unusual in being both a celebrated drummer and a later-life scholar. Beginning with the progressive rock of Yes, King Crimson, Genesis and UK, Bill spent the last two decades of his career with his group Earthworks, showcasing the best of young British jazz. Voted into Modern Drummer magazine’s Hall of Fame (1990), Bill was named by Rolling Stone magazine as #16 Greatest Drummer of All Time (2016) and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of ‘Yes’ (2017). Essential Bruford recordings include Close the Edge (Yes 1972), Red (King Crimson 1974), One of a Kind (Bruford 1979), Discipline (King Crimson 1980), Earthworks (Earthworks 1987), and The Sound of Surprise (Earthworks 2001). Straddling both jazz and rock, his work as a musician is well documented on CD and DVD at Summerfold and Winterfold Records and at www.billbruford.com . Bill retired from public performance in 2009 to study aspects of creativity and performance psychology.
